Please pack a lunch on Friday as well, if you did not order a box lunch.
Please make sure that your student puts on sunscreen/bug spray before they come to school. Please send them with a water bottle and towel for picnicking as well. We are hoping for beautiful weather, but you never know what could happen. Unless it is storming, we will plan to go on with the day. Thank you for allowing your child to participate. We are looking forward to 2 days full of fun!

STAAR is around the corner, and we are all working together as a team to encourage ourstudents because we know that they are all stars! On March 28th and March 29th, we will have our first round of STAAR testing for this school year. On Tuesday, March 28th, our fourth graders will be taking STAAR Writing, and our fifth graders will be taking STAAR Math. The following day, Wednesday, March 29th, our fifth graders will be taking the STAAR Reading.
Due to the security of this testing process, all parents (Kinder through 5th grade), will not be able to eat lunch with their students on these dates. I will be working on counting assessments in the coming days/weeks. Many students have already mastered counting to 100 by 1's and by 10's! They will also need to be able to count backwards from 20. Please continue to practice these skills at home. If your student has not mastered counting to 100, Youtube has plenty of songs for counting to 100.
This is what we have been learning about this week:
-secret story -or
-sight words: love, or, was, from, for
-word family -ice
-writer's workshop - drawing a picture (with lots of details) to tell our story, sounding out the words (we spell phonetically), spaces between words, using a capital and period, writing with speech bubbles/thought bubbles and telling a story from beginning, middle and end
-reader's workshop: using story elements to make connections and to compare/contrast
-counting to 100, patterns on the hundreds chart
-social studies: President's day, U.S. flags and symbols
Creekside Forest Elementary will be celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday, March 2. Students are encouraged to “Seussify” themselves and dress as their favorite Seussian character on that day. A great option is anything with red and white stripes!
Please be sure to read aloud with your students at home on this special day.
Gretchen Hock (Librarian)
Also Friday, March 3 is Go Texan Day! We will all be dressing up in our Texan attire.
In class the students are working on becoming successful readers by answering comprehension questions about the stories that they are reading. This can also be practiced at home with the red folder books that are being sent home weekly. I have added a file under Kindergarten printables with a list of prompted questions that you can ask your child after they read their book with you. I will also be sending a paper form of these questions in their yellow folders. Please let me know if you have any questions.
