Hello, Parents!

I hope you and your family are excited about our new school year.

Please tell your child I recently received a letter and pictures from President Obama in response to the letters we sent him last Spring.  I will put them on my classroom's (Room 401, in the First/Second Grades' Pod) outside window by my door for a few days so my friends can view it all.

Please hug your child for me and wish him/her a fabulous school year.  You all are in my thoughts and prayers.  Please let me know if I can assist you or your child during the year.

Hugs,
DonnaMaria   :O)

Hello, Parents!

I hope you are enjoying a fabulous summer so far!  My husband and I have finally returned from our amazing Alaskan trip.  I still can't believe we flew in a small plane to the Artic Circle!  I am SO afraid of heights, but I impressed my husband, our friends, and even myself when I conquered my fear and got in that plane!  What an incredible experience!

I sent my friends a postcard from one of our stops in Alaska.  The postcard should have arrived by now.  Please let me know if your child doesn't receive it, and I will send a note from home.

Please hug your child for me.  I really miss my sweet friends, and can't wait to see them for our new school year!

Be well!

Hugs,
DonnaMaria  :O)

Good Afternoon, Parents!

Thank you so very much for coming to our party today.  It was such a special day!  Thank you, too, for all of the amazing gifts.  I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity.  Your love and support means the world to me.  I am truly blessed and filled with such joy!

This summer our district is taking part in a free trial session with a new company.  Your child can use this Reading program all summer.  The website is myOn.com.  Your child will use the same username and password that is used all year to login at school:  Username: ID/Lunch number and password: tisdbirthdate.  The first time , your child will be asked to take a short survey, and then a test to find a reading level.  Your child will get a menu of books of his/her interest to choose.  This program is a lot like Raz-kids.  I hope you and your child will check it out soon.  Happy Reading!

I will be gone for the next two weeks, and will not have access to my e-mail.  Please feel free to contact me after June 19 if you need anything or just want to say hello.

May you and your family enjoy a fabulous and safe summer!

Hugs,
DonnaMaria   :O)

Good Afternoon, Parents!

Please remember lunch will not be served in the cafeteria Thursday and Friday.  Your child needs to bring a lunch from home Thursday unless you ordered a sack lunch.  I only received one order.  Your child does NOT need a lunch Friday.  Pizza will be served for lunch at our party.

Please help your child empty his/her backpack each day.  I'm sending materials home each day, and there needs to be room for all the new items.  Thank you!

Enjoy a wonderful evening!

Last Week of School Parents

Good Afternoon, Parents!

Happy Memorial Day!  I hope you, your family, and your home are all safe and dry!

A local pastor will be collecting used backpacks from our school this week.  If you would like to donate backpacks, there will be a collection box in the front hallway.

Please view the attached file for information about all of our activities and special events for our last week together.

Please remember your child will not be able to receive his/her Report Card Friday if any fees for books, library books, or cafeteria accounts are owed.  Notices have gone home if your child needs to return books or pay fees.

Please make sure your child brings his/her backpack to school EACH day this week, including FRIDAY.

Thank you for a fabulous year!  Please let me know if I can assist you or your child as you prepare for the transition to Second Grade.

Good Afternoon, Parents!

The cafeteria will NOT have water bottles for the remainder of this year.

Homework Folders will NOT be coming home today.  I will send them home later in the week.  Your child will not have any regular homework for the remainder of the year.  However, please have your child read at least 15 minutes each night for fluency and comprehension practice.  If possible, please have your child go on-line to one of the below websites to gather information about his/her animal.  Some of the books do not offer a great amount of detail and I do not have enough laptops for each student.  Your child can print the information and bring it to school.  I will help him/her write the appropriate information for the project at school.

Also, whenever possible, please help your child practice math facts.  I will be giving timed math facts tests during the next two weeks for you and your child to see how proficient your child is at this time.  These will not be a grade in my Grade Book.

Hello, Parents!

Tomorrow is Field Day!  Please apply sunscreen and bug repellent before you leave for school.  Your child may want to wear a hat, but will be responsible for keeping up with it all day.  Please have your child wear a blue shirt if possible.  If it is raining, we will have a shorter version indoors.  Your child needs to bring a lunch from home.  It may be in a lunch kit.  The lunch does not need to be completely disposable. Order forms for a sack lunch from the cafeteria went home a while ago, but I received NO orders.

The cafeteria will be closed Friday, May20.  Your child needs to bring a lunch from home again.  It can be in a lunch kit.  We will eat on the sidewalk by our outside doors to the playground.

If you see *Q*! on your child's paper, it is a very good thing.  I am looking for exceptional, quality work.  When I see it, I will let your child know by using this marking.

Good Afternoon, Parents and Happy Mother's Day, Moms!

Thank you so very much for all the beautiful flowers, adorable notes, delicious treats, and the amazing gift cards!  I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity.  I am extremely blessed to have all of you in my life, and I am so grateful for your never-ending support.  Thank you for always making me feel special and appreciated, not just during this celebrated week.

We will be very busy the next few weeks with completing requirements and preparing for Second Grade.  I will begin "End of Year" individual assessments this Monday.  This is a lengthy process, so I will not be meeting with most of my small groups.  Your child may not bring home new readers in his/her "Home Reader Bag", but please continue to have your child read to you with books you have at home for at least 15 minutes each night.

The End of Year Writing Benchmark will be this Wednesday.  Please support me by reminding your child to do quality work by beginning with a good topic sentence, using interesting details, ending with a good conclusion sentence, and using correct capitalization and ending punctuation.  We have spent all year learning and applying the Writing Process, and I expect amazing stories!

We will spend the next few weeks researching animals, gathering information, and preparing a research paper and presentation to share with our classmates.  Your child will be able to choose the animal.  My husband will be checking out books from the public library for us to use.  Your child may also bring books from home.  All of the work will be done in class, but your child may go on-line at home to research the animal, and bring the printed out information to school.

Your child should be practicing math facts at home.  I will be giving timed math facts test the next few weeks.  These will not go in my Grade Book, but I will grade them so you will see how proficient your child is at this time.  Your child will be expected to know math facts to 20 when entering Second Grade in August.  I recommend your child practice during the summer.

We had our last Library class Friday.  Your child needs to return all library books by this Friday, May 13.

Our "End of Year" party date has been changed due to our extra day of school.  Thursday, June 2 will be a full day of school.  Our last day of school will be Friday, June 3.  It is an "Early Dismissal" (12:40) day.  Our party will be 11:15-12:15.  If you attend the party, you make take your child home with you from our classroom.  You will need to sign out on the form on our front board.

Students in grades 3-6 will be taking the STAAR Tests Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week.  We are asking parents and visitors to not visit school during this time to ensure the best testing environment for our older friends.

Good Afternoon, Parents!

I can't believe we are down to the last weeks of school!  Where has the year gone?

We have several May birthdays, and we will also celebrate all the summer birthdays this month.  We are only allowed to enjoy one birthday treat per day at Lunch.  It is not expected nor required for you to give the class a treat.  However, if you are planning to share a treat with our class for your child's birthday, please inform me ASAP to ensure we keep within the birthday guidelines.  As of right now, I have one parent scheduled to share a treat Friday, May 20.  I appreciate your help and support with this matter because I do not want any tears or hurt feelings.

Enjoy a wonderful week!
