Dear Parents,

I am honored and excited to be a part of your child’s 3rd grade learning experience. I know this is going to be a fantastic year! This website will tell you a little about me and some important information. Please subscribe to this website for any important newsflash reminders or updates.

I am excited to get to know each of your children and find out about the unique experiences that they've had.  I think getting to know each child will help foster a sense of community and learning environment in our classroom.  I believe that strong parent involvement will also help promote a positive learning experience for your child.

I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!

Thank you,
Anne Eichler

Weekly Update for September 25-29

Thank you for the great turnout for parent information night! If you have any questions, please feel free to let Sara or me know. I posted the power point if you would like to reference it at any time, or if you were unable to attend last night.
I also posted a link to our fall conference sign up. We hope to see all of you!
In reading next week, we will continue to work on plot. We will also focus on character changes and summary. Your children did such fantastic work on their plot diagrams in Google Classroom. They are really enjoying the opportunity to use chromebooks and their interactive notebooks to complete assignments :)
This week we began developing ideas for future personal narratives. I was so proud of how they thought through ideas and wanted to choose people and places that were really close to their heart. It was interesting hearing their stories. We will continue developing ideas next week and begin the writing process for their personal narrative piece.
In social studies we wrapped up our work on citizenship and will be moving into communities and how communities change over time.
For homework this week, they will need to complete the Drops in the Bucket page that went home today in their boomerang folders. They also received spelling list 3 and unit 2 for vocabulary. They will not take the vocabulary test on unit 2 until October 5th.
On next week's spelling test, there will be sentence dictation. They will have five sentences and the words will be chosen from spelling lists 1-3. Please review lists 1 and 2. The sentence dictation will be for a daily writing grade.
Thank you for your continued support!

Parent Information Night

Thank you for the wonderful turnout last night!  Sara and I enjoyed seeing you! Here is a copy of our power point if you were unable to attend, or if you would like to reference back to it :)

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow evening at Parent Information Night!

Weekly Update for Sept. 18-22

I hope you had a great week! We have been extremely productive this week!
For reading, we began doing more work with plot and how to look at the events in a story. We also began responding to our reading, through writing. These reading responses will help facilitate a deeper understanding on what they read. We also spent some time focusing on the unit 1 vocabulary words. we will continue with those words next week and have the quiz over them on Thursday.
In writing we began really looking at their selfie story with some peer editing. They are also meeting with me to review their story and I am having the opportunity to give a couple of suggestions and compliments. I've been very impressed with the ones I've had a chance to read so far :) Next week we will finish up revising and editing and publish those pieces. We will also begin gathering ideas in our writer's notebook and working toward brainstorming for our next personal narrative. On Friday, they will take their spelling test over lesson 2 (long vowels).
For homework this week, they will need to read for 20 minutes each night and complete the Drops in the Bucket page (in their boomerang folder). Please also take time to study the spelling list and vocabulary words.
A few reminders for next week...
Tuesday - Picture Day
Thursday - Parent Information Night
6:00 PTO meeting, 6:30 first session and 7:10 second session
I am so impressed with your children and what hard workers they are! I know they are going to accomplish great things this year!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Update

It was such a busy and productive week in our class!
In writing we began drafting a personal narrative for our summer selfie activity. The kids are doing a great job and I can't wait for them to publish them at the end of next week!
In reading we began working on story elements of fiction books. This is a review from second grade. They are off to a fantastic start on that! We will continue that work next week.
Today, in their planners, they taped in their first spelling list and vocabulary list. You will find it on page 21 in their planner. We will have our spelling test over lesson 1 next Friday. Please take some time to study those words over the next week. There will not be sentences with that spelling list. They also received a list with ten vocabulary words. We will begin working with those words on Monday. We will study vocabulary unit one over the next two weeks. They will not take a quiz over those words until September 21st.
On my website there is a links section. There you will find spelling and vocabulary resources. There is a link to Spelling City. They are welcome to visit that over the weekend to practice their spelling words :) On Monday I will show them how to get to the vocabulary page and introduce them to the different games and resources on that.
Please remember that the notebooks should be returned to school on Monday. Many students have already brought their notebooks back and they look fantastic! It's so interesting to see how they decorate them because it is another way for me to learn more about them.
A few important dates coming up...
September 19th - Picture Day
September 21st - Parent Information Night from 6:00-7:45
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and are able to go out and enjoy this beautiful weather!

Welcome back!!

It was so nice seeing all of your children's smiling faces today!!
We had a busy day back!
Today your child brought home his / her writer's and reader's notebook.  We duct taped them together. They can keep these at home until Monday. I would love for them to take some time to decorate the front and back covers at home. They can do as much as they would like.
Many students turned in their "All About Me Gazette" this morning. Thank you for getting those in!  I know that it may have been difficult to finish it over the last week.  Feel free to take until Friday, if your child is still working on it.
Today we started our first writing activity!  They did a fantastic job getting started!
If you haven't had a chance to send in headphones with your child, please do so soon. There will be some activities on the chromebook that they will need them for.
Just a heads up...On Friday I will send home the first spelling list and vocabulary list for the school year. I will do another post with more information on that later in the week.
Enjoy your evening!

Great First Day!

What a great first day! It was so much fun getting to know the kids. They are beyond sweet and I KNOW that we are going to have lots of fun learning together this school year.
Today the students brought home an all about me newspaper. This is not due until September 1st. This should be something fun for them and will be a great way for their classmates and me get to know them better.
There was also a yellow brochure that was sent home today. Please read through it and sign the box. There is a place for you to sign and your child. If you have any questions about any of the information on it, don't hesitate to ask me :)
I hope that you have a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing your children tomorrow morning!

I can't believe that tomorrow is already the first day of school!! I am always so excited that it is hard for me to sleep the night before :)
It was so nice meeting many of you at Meet the Teacher on Friday afternoon! I can tell that I have a great group of students and can't wait to get to know them better.
We will go through our school supplies in the morning.  All students will need a set of headphones (a built in microphone would be great) for the computers (the sooner the better).  Please make sure they are labeled.
If you have not done so already, please click the subscribe button on the right side of the webpage.  This will ensure that you are receiving my news updates.  You should also subscribe to Mrs. Guynes' webpage, as well as the specialists.  Their webpages are listed below.
