Welcome to Mrs. Foytlin's First Grade!
I anticipate a wonderful year with your children!
This is my third year at Creekside Forest Elementary
but it also begins my 23nd year as a teacher.
I attended Southern Methodist University and received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology.
I earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Special Education
from The University of Texas.
I am also certified as a teacher of the Gifted and Talented.
Though I gained considerable knowledge at these institutions,
I gained my most important schooling while in the classroom!
I am pleased to bring my knowledge and talents to Creekside Forest!
As for your child, I will be the kind of teacher that I wanted for my own children.

Week of September 14, 2020

Dear Families,
What a wonderful first week of school! We spent a lot of time getting to know each other and establishing safe routines. I was so pleased at how cooperative the children were with their masks and all the hand-washing......no questions.....no arguing. I'm sure we will have another successful week!
This week in Language Arts:
The students will listen to stories and discuss the characters and the settings. They will write about their connections to the stories. We will work on establishing a routine for Literacy Workstations, which include reading to self, writing, and computer reading activities.
This week in Math:
We will combine numbers to 10. We will count my 10s using a 120 chart, multiple songs, and videos. The students will also show numbers in different ways.
For example:
  • 24 is two tens and 4 ones
  • 24 in expanded form is 20 + 4
  • 24 in word form is twenty four
  • Show 24 with tally marks
  • Show 24 with manipulative objects
This week in Science:
We will discover the properties of solid materials. The children will learn how to describe solids by texture, color, and shape.
This week in Social Studies:
Everyday, we will review the 8 Great Expectations. The Life Principle this week is Self-Control.
Upcoming Events:
9/17 and 9/18 - First PTO Spirit Night with Holy Smokes BBQ
As always, I am here for your questions and concerns. The best ways to contact me are by cell phone (713-858-7555) or email nancyfoytlin@tomballisd.net
Kind regards,
Nancy Foytlin
