Happy Friday!

I need the time to slow down! Of course, I am looking forward to summer time and sleeping in, but I can NOT wrap my head around the fact that I have to give up your amazing kiddos in 14 days. Thank you for all of the amazing words and sweet treats this week. I am beyond blessed!

Happy Rainy Friday! Next Week is May?!?!

We had another successful week in Math and Science! We compared and contrasted life cycles and started exploring different ecosystems. Ask your child what biotic and abiotic are! In math, we wrapped up measurement and began analyzing graphs. Next week, we will really focus on all of our TEKS we have learned throughout the year to prepare for the Math STAAR on May 11th. We have a lot of fun activities planned to do this.

Good afternoon!

Ms. Andress and I would like your teamwork on making sure our last few weeks of 3rd grade are successful in academics, working as teams, and treating our classmates with kindness. It is not uncommon to get the summer wiggles and to need more redirection on class and school expectations. We have acknowledged the hard work our 3rd graders have put in and try to take brain breaks and extra recess breaks whenever we can to help them stay focused on our goals. 
One of the big things we have been noticing these last few weeks are the fidgets and toys that are being brought into the classroom. We have been flexible with testing them out to see if they are beneficial; however, we have found that the majority of students are using them to play, and they are becoming a huge distraction. We have had many discussions about the expectations and have had to collect these items daily due to misuse.  We ask that fidgets and other toys stay home unless your child has a specific plan implemented through the school. Thank you for partnering with us to end 3rd grade with high expectations, growth, and fun! ​

Last Week of April! 26th-30th

Good afternoon! 
 
Next week is our last week of April. I can't believe I am typing that. I do not know where the time went. In the Smore, you will see that we have our Measurement Unit Assessment on Wednesday. There are also specific suggestions and links to study if your child would like to practice at home as well. Our caterpillars are growing and I will not be surprised if we find them in their chrysalis/pupa stage Monday morning! I am attaching a picture of a student holding the caterpillars wearing her butterfly shirt :). Ask your child how they are growing and changing.

Weekly Smore for April 19th-23rd

Hello 3rd Grade Families!
 
I can't believe another week has flown by. I am in awe of how much hard work and dedication your child is putting into their learning and staying strong these last few weeks. I will attach some pictures of what we have been up to! 
 
Ask your child about the real life life cycles we have happening in our class! We go to see our seeds turn into seedlings today. Our caterpillars arrived yesterday and are already growing!

Smore for Week of March 29th-April 1st

Happy Weekend!
 
Wow, we had an amazing week back from Spring Break full of hands-on learning. We picked roots and compared them discussing plant adaptations. We searched for vines and plants with thorns. We went on a parallel line and right angle scavenger hunt inside and outside the building. We had a glow stick geometry party and created polygons. We participated in a virtual lab from Ms. Paquette  who taught us really neat adaptations that birds have.....the learning and fun goes on and on :). I am so proud of the hard work they put in. 
 
Since Monday is officially the start of the last 9 weeks, we will be focusing on closing out the year strong, but also showing independence and problem solving to move into almost 4th graders. Ms. Andress and my expectations from day one have been set high, but we will continue to push for growth with character building and learning expectations. Personal accountability will be a big goal.

Math Review

I just wanted to send a quick note that your child brought home their review packet for our multiplication and division test that we did in class today. It should be in their backpack this evening. Some are not completed due to time. If your child would like some extra practice, they can complete this or review the questions from today. **the most valuable time to review may be just practicing their multiplication facts. 
 
Also, tomorrow in the Smore, there will be a section about the Valentine's party next Friday. Please check this section and let me know if you have any questions.
 
Last, but not least! We had a presentation this morning from Greg Tang on how to look at our times table. He is this AMAZING mathematician and showed some really neat ways to break apart numbers and use number sense. Ask your child what they thought about it!
