End of the Year Activities!

FRIDAY is water day! The students will participate in all kinds of fun water activities, such as water balloons, misters and squirt bottles, relay races and everything water. Clothing & shoes will get completely wet. Please send a full change of clothing and towel – including socks, shoes, and underwear. Students will change after the activities. Boys may wear swimsuit bottoms and a t-shirt or swim shirt. Girls may wear swimsuits under their clothes, or shorts and a swim top. Clothing must meet dress code requirements.  You may send a hat and please apply sunscreen at home.  Each student will enjoy popsicles to wrap up the fun!
 
The end of the year is quickly approaching!  Here are some important reminders as we get ready to celebrate the end of the school year!
*All library books were due May 18.  If your child has not returned his/her library book, please send it in ASAP.
*All yellow book bags need to be returned this week, if your child did not return it all ready.
*With the warm weather upon us, please make sure your child brings a refillable water bottle DAILY to school to help stay hydrated!

A NOTE FROM COACH BAXTER:

Your child will participate in field day this week. K-2nd grade will be on Thursday from 9:30-12:30, and 3rd -5th grade will be on Friday from 9:30-12:30. Please make sure that they wear the color that their teacher has given them, and tennis shoes. Field day attire must follow the school dress code. Kindergarten lunch on Thursday is from 10:30-11:00, 1st grade from 11:00-11:30, and 2nd grade is from 11:30-12:00. On Friday, Grades 3-5 will eat after the games at 12:30. If you did not order a box lunch for your student, please be sure to send your student with a sack lunch. On Friday the cafeteria will be closed, and will not be serving the regular menu to ANY grades. Only box lunches that were pre-ordered, will be served on Friday. Please pack a lunch on Friday as well, if you did not order a box lunch.

Please make sure that your student puts on sunscreen/bug spray before they come to school. Also, send them with a water bottle and towel for picnicking at lunch. We are hoping for beautiful weather, but you never know what could happen. Unless it is storming, we will plan to go on with the day. Thank you for allowing your child to participate. We are looking forward to 2 days full of fun!

Thank you all so much for the flowers, notes, sweets, and gifts this week. I am so lucky to teach each of your students!!

-School will be closed to visitors Monday (5/14), Tuesday (5/15) and Wednesday (5/16) due to STAAR testing.
 
TUESDAY May 15th we will sign yearbooks. Please send your student with their yearbook and something to sign other yearbooks with (thin sharpies work great). If your child did not purchase a yearbook I will give them an autograph booklet to have friends sign.
 

The end of Kindergarten is just around the corner!  Our room moms are planning a fun end of the year party for our classes.  Please check out the Sign Up Genius link if you would like to help with party donations.  Thank you for all of your help and support throughout the school year! 
*Just a reminder our party will be on the last day of school, Thursday, May 31, at 11:30 a.m.  Early dismissal will be at 12:50 p.m.

From our Counselor, Ms. Dean:

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5, will have an opportunity to show all that they’ve learned this year as they take a variety of STAAR tests.   

May 14th, 2018:  3rd, 4th Math, 5th retest

May 15th, 2018: 3rd, 4th Reading

May 16th, 2018: 5th Science STAAR

Due to the security of this testing process, all parents (Kinder through 5thgrade), will eat lunch with their children on other dates. Volunteers are also asked to reschedule their time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. Here at Creekside Forest, we have the most amazing parents who provide their time and care to volunteer and make our school a nurturing environment.

The Book Fair will be taking place all week.  We will visit the Book Fair as a class at our regular library time on Thursday at 1:30, so if you would like to send money to school with your child to purchase something we will go during our normal library time.

Kindergarten Water Day - May 25

FRIDAY is the field trip!
Here are a few reminders:
-Leave your students backpack and all folders at home. Red Homework folders will be due on Thursday this week.
-Pack your child's lunch in a plastic/ziploc bag with their name clearly labeled on it. Lunch kits are not allowed. Everything needs to be able to be thrown away.
-Wear a blue shirt, and tennis shoes....students will be doing a lot of walking!
-Bring one disposable water bottle labeled with name. No personal water bottles, only disposable.
-Have your student at school as early as possible. We will leave at 8:45 a.m.
-Your child does not need to bring any money with him/her.

Permission slips for our field trip to The Oil Ranch on April 20th came home today. Please fill out and return no later than April 13. You may visit the website www.oilranch.com form or information about the location.
 
 
All parents attending the field trip must fill out the district volunteer form. You can find the form in the quick links on the right side of the Tomball ISD website.

It's hard to believe, but the last 9 weeks of school is here!  The year has gone by so quickly!
 
Mark your calendar! Friday, April 20 is our field trip to the Oil Ranch. Students will ride the bus to the ranch and will be paid for by PTO. All parents are invited to come. Chaperones will be assigned a small group of students on the day of the trip. All parents attending will need to provide their own transportation. All students will ride the bus back to school.
*Parents must fill out the TISD volunteer application if joining us on the field trip. 
 

 

 

CAMPUS CLOSED TO VISITORS             DURING STAAR TESTING

 

STAAR is around the corner, and we are all working together as a team to encourage our

students because we know that they are all stars! On April 10th and April 11th, we will have our first round of STAAR testing for this school year. On Tuesday, April 10th, our fourth graders will be taking STAAR Writing, and our fifth graders will be taking STAAR Math. The following day, April 11th, our fifth graders will be taking the STAAR Reading.

 

Due to the security of this testing process, all parents (Kinder through 5th grade), will eat lunch with their children on other dates. Volunteers are also asked to reschedule their time. Just a few test-taking tips:

  1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the test.
  2. Have your child eat a high protein breakfast the morning of the test.
  3. Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts.
  4. Double check that your child has his/her eyeglasses and any needed medications.
  5. Arrive to school on time.
  6. Explain to your child to listen carefully to all instructions and use his/her time wisely.
  7. Encourage your child to do his/her best and that if they do that, you will be proud of them, and they will be proud of themselves!

ELA/Reading:  authors purpose, media literacy, character traits, making inferences, point of view
Writing:  expository writing, writing for a reason (letter writing, persuasive writing)
Math:  addition and subtraction, measurement
Social Studies/Science:  maps and land forms, living and non living, plants, insects, animal characteristics, natural resources
