Dear Parents,

I am honored and excited to be a part of your child’s 3rd grade learning experience. I know this is going to be a fantastic year! This website will tell you a little about me and some important information. Please subscribe to this website for any important newsflash reminders or updates.

I am excited to get to know each of your children and find out about the unique experiences that they've had.  I think getting to know each child will help foster a sense of community and learning environment in our classroom.  I believe that strong parent involvement will also help promote a positive learning experience for your child.

I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!

Quick update

Hi everyone! I hope that you are having a fantastic week!

Wednesday folders will come home tomorrow (Thursday), due to the campus being closed for testing Monday - Wednesday.

Please see the note below about field day on Friday...

Parents,
Your child will participate in field day this week. K-2nd grade will be on Thursday from 9:30-12:30, and 3rd -5th grade will be on Friday from 9:30-12:30. Please make sure that they wear the color that their teacher has given them, and tennis shoes. Field day attire must follow the school dress code. Kindergarten lunch on Thursday is from 10:30-11:00, 1st grade from 11:00-11:30, and 2nd grade is from 11:30-12:00. On Friday, Grades 3-5 will eat after the games at 12:30. If you did not order a box lunch for your student, please be sure to send your student with a sack lunch. On Friday the cafeteria will be closed, and will not be serving the regular menu to ANY grades. Only box lunches that were pre-ordered, will be served on Friday. Please pack a lunch on Friday as well, if you did not order a box lunch.

Please make sure that your student puts on sunscreen/bug spray before they come to school. Also, send them with a water bottle and towel for picnicking at lunch. We are hoping for beautiful weather, but you never know what could happen. Unless it is storming, we will plan to go on with the day. Thank you for allowing your child to participate. We are looking forward to 2 days full of fun!

Our classroom is wearing blue. I'm excited for a day full of fun!

Update 5/9

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week!

Today in your child's Wednesday folder you will see an envelope. Inside that are two sheets of paper. One is just instructions and the other is a page for you to write your child a note to open on Monday before he / she takes the STAAR test. This is a nice surprise for them and they will enjoy opening them beforehand. Feel free to send them back in the Wednesday folder tomorrow or send them on Friday. I will take care of a note for Tuesday :)

On Monday and Tuesday, students should leave their backpacks at home. They will not be able to have those at their desks during testing. They can still bring their lunchbox, if needed.

Just a reminder that visitors will not be allowed on campus Monday thru Wednesday next week due to STAAR testing.

Next Friday is our field day. We will have field day from 9:30-12:30. We are assigned the color blue, so I would love for students to wear blue that day! The cafeteria will be closed that day. Students will need to sign up to buy a bagged lunch from the cafeteria or plan on bringing their lunch that day.

Just a reminder that we will have our vocabulary quiz over unit 13 tomorrow, but will not have a spelling test on Friday. I also did not assign homework for this week, although I encourage students to work on their biography projects.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Biography Presentation - Due May 21st

Happy Wednesday!

Attached is the biography project guidelines.

I spoke with students about this today in class. They have completed all of their research in class to help with this project. Their graphic organizer with their research will come home on Friday to help them prepare.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this!

Weekly Update 4-30

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great start to your week!

This week we are busy finishing up some large projects that we've been busy working on throughout April.

In reading, we are beginning unit 13 of vocabulary. Students are also finishing up their book club projects. They will have these completed by the end of the week. We are also continuing to review for STAAR.

For writing, we are beginning to draft for our biographies that the students have been researching. Today they found quotes to incorporate into their beginning paragraph. I am excited to see their finished products!

In social studies we are continuing to learn about natural resources and how they impact our communities.

On Wednesday, students will bring home information about their biography project. This will be a project that is completed at home, however, they have already completed the research for the project here. Projects will not be due until May 21st.

I can't believe that tomorrow is already May 1st and I only have a few weeks left with your sweet children!

Have a great evening!

Muffins with Mom

Just a reminder that Muffins with Mom is tomorrow morning from 7:30-8:30.

Hope to see you there!

Update 4/20

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone had a great week!

We have been very busy!

Students are wrapping up their book clubs over the next couple of weeks and have a couple of assignments to finish up. Our book clubs and project will be completed by May 4th. I think students enjoyed participating in book clubs and having the opportunity to meet with their peers to discuss :)

We are also knee deep in our biography research. This week, the students picked a person to research and have taken notes on their early life. Next week we will wrap up our research.

In reading, we are also reviewing genres of text that we have worked on throughout the year. The students are doing a variety of whole class, small group and individual work to review.

On Monday, the book fair begins and we will attend as a class. Tuesday morning is Muffins with Mom from 7:30-8:30. I look forward to seeing you there!

Our homework due next Friday is, "Regions of the Lone Star State." We will have our vocabulary quiz over unit 12 on Thursday. On Friday, we will have a spelling test over lesson 20 and sentence dictation on lists 18-20.

Thank you for all of your continued support! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

progress reports

Progress will go home in the Wednesday folders tomorrow (Thursday).

Have a great afternoon!

in search of two large boxes

Hi there!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

We are in need of two large cardboard boxes for our third grade service project. If you have any available, we would gladly take them off your hands :)

Thanks for your help!

Week of April 9-13

I hope everyone has had a great weekend!! The cold snap through me for a little bit of a loop. I'm ready for the warmer weather to come back :)

Next week we will have our spelling test of list 18 (students received this on Friday) and quiz over Unit 11 vocabulary.

Homework for this week is a biography with questions about Jim Thorpe.  It is due Friday.

We will continue with our book clubs this week. They will complete more activities and meet on Friday.

We will begin to research famous people they are interested learning more about as part of our biography unit.  They will take notes to prepare for a report. There will be a menu of choices for presentations as the end product.  We will work on these over the next month.

Just a reminder that visitors will not be allowed on campus on Tuesday and Wednesday due to fourth and fifth grade STAAR testing.

Wednesday folders will go home on Thursday instead of Wednesday this week.

If you have a moment to check around your home for books from our classroom library, it would be much appreciated. I love to let the kids take them home to continue reading them. Sometimes they get left around their rooms or stuck on a book shelf by mistake.

I am looking forward to another exciting week!

Anne

I hope that everyone had a great start to their week! I love the weather that we've been having!

This is a short week due to the holiday on Friday.  Yay for a long weekend!

It is also our last check in to assess students' progress as we approach STAAR.  The students will take their Math Mock STAAR on Tuesday, and a Reading Mock STAAR on Wednesday.  This will help us determine any concepts that we need to reteach, and individualize our instruction to each individual's strengths and weaknesses for the last 6 weeks before the state test.  Third grade is the first year students take STAAR, therefore taking back to back tests  as we are this week, will give the students the understanding of how the real thing feels.  Our schedule will be adjusted so that the students can concentrate on their tests in the morning uninterrupted.  Our specials time will be moved to the afternoon.

Now for the fun stuff....  :)

Today we finished the first step of our narrative; sketch, story tell, write. This week we will be spicing up our narratives with effective dialogue, feelings, and sensory details.

Book clubs are underway!  Each club has their own Google Classroom and reading schedule.  Students are able to interact with their group to have discussions even if they are in different classes!  We will have our first meeting at the end of the week to share our online journal assignments.   Students may work on these at home, as many are expressing that they want to read at home too!  However, there will be plenty of time to read in class this week.

We have our spelling test (List 16) and vocabulary  quiz (unit 10) on Thursday.

Homework was sent home last Wednesday and is due this Thursday. If your child already turned it in, then they do not have any.  Book club assignments may be worked on at home if they need to catch up.

Have a fantastic week!

Field Trip Reminders

Happy Wednesday!

I wanted to remind you of a few things for tomorrow...

1. Please pack your child's lunch in a disposable container.
2. If your child has a Creekside shirt, we would love for them to wear it. If not, please have them wear black or red :)
3. It may be a little cool tomorrow morning when our field trip starts. Please have your child bring a sweatshirt.
4. If you would like for your child to wear sunscreen or bug spray, please put it on before school.
5. We will be walking around for part of the field trip. I would recommend tennis shoes.

Tomorrow should be a great day! Thank you for your help!

Anne

Weekly Update

I hope that everyone is having a great week so far!

I was so proud of your children on the reading benchmark yesterday! Their scores will go home tomorrow in their Wednesday folders.

Tomorrow I will also send home a reading packet. Many parents have asked for things to work on at home. The packet has short paragraphs with four questions. The questions for each paragraph are important comprehension skills that we have covered in class. This would be a great way to review with your child. I would also love if they continue to read at home :)

Thursday is our field trip!! It is hard to believe it is already here. It would be great if you can send your child with their lunch in a disposable bag. It makes transporting the lunches so much easier. Also, your child is still welcome to purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria before we leave on the field trip. Please let me know by tomorrow morning if you would like your child to do that.

Have a great afternoon!

Run the Creek

Hi parents!

Run the Creek is on Friday!!

We will be running at 10:30, by the Rob Fleming Pavilion. This year, your child will run / walk six laps. Please make sure that they wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Feel free to come cheer us on, we will be in the neon orange bandannas.

Please see the updated policy information from the district.

Google Classroom

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and start to your week!

I know that some of the kids are having difficulty logging in to Google Classroom at home.

To login to Google Classroom:
1. Go to google.com
2. Click on the icon in the corner to sign in a user
3. Students will login with their Tomball email and password
     student #@elem.tomballschools.net
     tisd + birthdate
4. Make sure not to link the accounts!

After they are signed in, they can access all of their Google apps, including Classroom.

I hope this helps!

Have a great night!

Anne

Weekly update 2-24

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far!

I was so impressed with the poetry assessment grades! Your children did a fabulous job!

A Scholastic News on MLK was sent home yesterday for homework. I also told the kids that I assigned a passage on Thurgood Marshall on their Readworks account. They can access this on their Google Classroom account. The Thurgood Marshall passage is optional, but I would love for them to do it :) They will receive 5 tickets for completing it by Friday.

There will not be new spelling words or vocabulary words for the next two weeks. We are going to spend time reviewing spelling patterns and previous vocabulary words.

On Monday, March 5th we will take our spring reading benchmark. We will spend time reviewing this week to prepare for it. The best way to review at home is reading with your child and asking questions as they read.

We will also be working on maps and globes in social studies.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Anne
