Dear parents,

What a wonderful year it will be at Creekside Forest! We have so much to look forward to this year. I feel very fortunate to be a part of your CFES school family.

A bit about me...I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where it's chilly and windy in the winter yet full of sunshine in the summer. I studied Foreign Language International Studies for Elementary Students, which was comprised of Elementary Education and Spanish. http://www.iup.edu/ After relocating to Texas and teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, I attended Sam Houston State University and received a Master of Education in Counseling. SHSU provided a plethora of opportunities to counsel, I feel quite fortunate. http://www.shsu.edu/

Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance. I am here as your advocate.

exemplary attendance, behavior, and academic achievement. Students who have had perfect attendance for the entire year or earned The President’s Award for Educational Achievement will be honored on stage with a medal and certificate. If your child has earned either Perfect Attendance or The President’s Award for Educational Achievement, you will receive an invitation. We hope you are able to attend this wonderful ceremony acknowledging our students’ efforts this year on Tuesday, May 29th in the cafeteria, at 9 AM here at Creekside Forest Elementary!

STAAR 2018

STAAR is around the corner, and we are all working together as a team to encourage our students because we know that they are all stars! On April 10th and April 11th , we will have our first round of STAAR testing for this school year. On Tuesday, April 10th, our fourth graders will be taking STAAR Writing, and our fifth graders will be taking STAAR Math. The following day, April 11th, our fifth graders will be taking the STAAR Reading.

Due to the security of this testing process, all parents (Kinder through 5 th grade), will eat lunch with their children on other dates. Volunteers are also asked to reschedule their time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. Here at Creekside Forest, we have the most amazing parents who provide their time and care to volunteer and make our school a nurturing environment.

Just a few test-taking tips:

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the test.
2. Have your child eat a high protein breakfast the morning of the test.
3. Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts.
4. Double check that your child has his/her eyeglasses and any needed medications.
5. Arrive to school on time.
6. Explain to your child to listen carefully to all instructions and use his/her time
7. Encourage your child to do his/her best and that if they do that, you will be proud of
them, and they will be proud of themselves!

College & Career Week Volunteers!

November 8-10, we will be having a College and Career Week for our students here at CFES! On Friday, November 10th, we would love to have parent volunteers participate to share how they contribute to society while discussing their careers. Career development is essential, encouraging acquisition skills, attitudes, and knowledge that facilitate a successful transition from the school to the world of work. Please contact the counselor, Ms. Dean, if you are interested in being a guest speaker at Creekside Forest Elementary!
If you are one of the presenters, you would share your time with other volunteers during specials. Presentations typically last between 10-20
minutes. I would have a cart with a computer/projector and a
microphone available for you to use.

Previous presenters discussed:
1. Career description
2. Path for the career, i.e. college, degree, training, etc.
3. What it is like to participate in the career (some brought a
demonstration i.e. products the company makes)

Watch D.O.G.S.

Watch D.O.G.S.
We kicked off our school year with the Watch D.O.G.S. program.
WATCH D.O.G.S.® ( Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program
from the National Center for Fathering focusing on the prevention of
violence in our nation’s schools by using the positive influence of
fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:
1) to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and
2) to be a positive and active role-model for students at school.
Watch D.O.G.S., please remember to complete the volunteer
application on the Tomball website. Please permit at least two weeks
for the application to process. Schedules are posted on my Edlio,
teachers have an electronic copy, and Christie Jenkins has a hard copy
at the front desk.
Please contact Ms. Jenkins to schedule/reschedule your Watch D.O.G.S. appointment.
